The Papillon dog breed, also known as the “Continental Toy Spaniel,” is one of the oldest Toy Spaniels. This small dog’s name is French for butterfly because of his butterfly-looking ears. Before he became a beloved family companion, he was primarily used as a ratter. Small but lively, the Papillon breed keeps everyone in his family in high spirits. He is friendly with children, but should be gently handled during playtime because of his diminutive stature. This Papillon toy dog breed can get along well with other pets. However, he should be kept away from small animals because of his history as a ratter. Papillons are easy to groom and only need brushing a few times a week. They are high-energy dogs but do not need a lot of exercise. The lifespan of the dog breed is 12–16 years. About Papillon

The Papillon dog breed dates back 700 years ago. However, his history is somewhat a mystery, with France, England, and Belgium claiming his origins. The earliest records of the Papillon breed can be traced through artworks. Toy Spaniels that resemble the Papillon dogs are depicted in some paintings in the 1500s. However, they are also shown in paintings of royal families around Europe such as the family portrait of Louis XIV. The early versions of the Papillon dog breed, then called the Phalene which is the French word for moth, has drooping ears. It was only in the 19th century that the pricked ears became fashionable, resembling that of a butterfly. Hence, he was called Papillon, which is the French word for butterfly. Some believed that the Phalene was crossed with Miniature Spitz-type dogs to achieve the pricked ear variety, which is the Papillon. Papillons were bred to be excellent ratters due to their small size. As years passed, their popularity as family pets grew amongst the royal blood. The infamous Queen of France, Marie Antoinette, owned a Papillon dog named Coco. It was believed that the dog was descended from an old breed with dropped ears called Epagneul Nain or Continental Dwarf Spaniel. Madame de Pompadour, King Louis XV’s mistress, also had 2 Papillon dogs that she named Mimi and Inez. Both female dogs were responsible for the popularity of this adorable, small dog breed. Today, these Toy Spaniels became favourites in dog shows and canine sports. A famous Papillon named Loteki Supernatural Being, or Kirby, was the only dog who won three major international competitions in a single year. The Papillon is also an excellent family companion due to his affectionate and loyal nature. The dog breed was recognised by the American Kennel Club in 1915. It was then followed by the Kennel Club in 1923. This tiny dog belongs to the Toy Group.

Thanks for visiting our website. I am called Henry Stones. The Stones family are the owners of Sunshine Papillons. We have been breeding this lovely breed dogs since 2015. My wife and I are pet lovers so we took up the initiative to breed these lovely dog breed to satisfy the needs of families who will want to own or add a new member to their family. My knowledge about the Papillons has grown as the years go by as they are a dog breed that are very smart and make us to learn new things everyday. My history with owning a puppy goes right back to my Christmas holidays when I was 10 years old. My parents bought me a lovely Papillon puppy which I named Liam. Liam gave me a lot of childhood memories when I was growing as a teen. He was more than a best friend to me. He was so lovely and friendly. Each time I got angry back then about something, Liam was always there to console me and make me smile again. I always thought he could talk as he understood me so much. I always speak to him at times hoping he will respond. Everywhere I went to, Liam was with me. I met my wife in college. We were very good friends back then. She loved Liam until she insisted her parents should get her a Papillon puppy. That was how our love for this lovely dog breed grew up. Our dogs use to play together. Unfortunately in our later years at college, I lost my lovely puppy Liam. We grew up loving each other so much and loving this dog breed. Later on, we got married and with our love for Papillons. We decided to breed and raise this dog breed and why not educate puppy lovers about the importance of owning a Papillon puppy. Fast forward to today, my wife and I raise our 2 kids and breed the Puppies on our 3 acres of land where our puppies have enough space to play around. My family and I are dedicated to help everyone own the perfect, healthy puppy for their home. With our knowledge of this dog breed from childhood, we will say Papillons are the best dogs to own. We spend our time in training these puppies and making sure we help families own the most intelligent of this dog breed.
